Manuel Antonio and Uvita Travel Field Guide

Choose Manuel Antonio or Uvita as the primary base before booking both.
Manuel Antonio offers a formal reservation-controlled national park and dense visitor services. Uvita anchors the Ballena coast and marine activities. They can be combined, but a hotel change is not always necessary.
Plan in this order: confirm park or reserve access, choose the transport leg, select a stay with verifiable evidence, then book only the activities that fit the route. Recheck operating details close to departure.
Route decision
Both sit along the Pacific corridor. Map the national park entry, marine departure, and airport transfer before choosing a midpoint that requires driving in both directions.
Decisions to make before booking
Manuel Antonio
Buy park entry only through SICORE
The official visitor page states that the park has no parking and ticket sales occur through SINAC’s online system. Ignore roadside sellers claiming to be park staff.
Uvita
Check marine conditions and departure details
Ballena National Marine Park has several official access points. Marine-tour conditions and wildlife are seasonal and cannot be guaranteed.
Stay
Choose access over a generic ocean view
A property near the planned park, bus, or boat meeting point can remove repeated vehicle trips. Confirm hills and walking conditions.
Stay decision
Quepos can offer easier town services and bus access, while hillside Manuel Antonio properties can shorten the park transfer but create steep walks. In Uvita, distance from the marine park entrance or boat meeting point matters. Hotel Parador, Si Como No, Villa Bosque, and La Cusinga appeared in ICT sustainability material when checked.
- Match the legal property name to the ICT record or other named certification.
- Confirm how the property connects to the planned reserve, park, or departure point.
- Record included meals and transfers before comparing the nightly rate.
- Keep operator-reported practices separate from independently verified evidence.
Reservation and operator checks
Manuel Antonio entry belongs in the official SICORE system. A guided walk confirmation should state whether the guest buys the park ticket separately. For Uvita marine trips, record the departure beach, park fee, vessel type, group size, and weather policy.
For any guide, ask for the credential, maximum group size, wildlife-contact rules, cancellation terms, and the exact meeting point. A species list describes possibility, not a sighting guarantee.
Practical field notes
Do not bring single-use plastic into Manuel Antonio National Park. Carry water in a reusable bottle, use effective sun protection, and keep food rules in mind. The Pacific heat makes an early park entry easier than stacking the visit after a long drive.
When to leave this region out
Choose only one South Pacific base on a short route. Leave Manuel Antonio out if crowds and a formal ticket schedule conflict with the trip, or leave Uvita out when there is no marine or South Pacific activity that justifies the extra distance.
