Costa Rica 7-Day Itinerary: Two Bases, Fewer Transfers

Give La Fortuna three nights, Monteverde two, and keep the final night near the departure airport when the flight is early. Seven days is enough for a lowland rainforest base and a cloud-forest base. A coast stop costs one of the usable days that makes this pairing worthwhile.

Days 1 to 3: let the hotel location do some work
Before choosing an outlying hot-springs resort, price the journeys it creates. A quiet room may still be the right choice, but every included pickup needs to name that address. Keep the arrival day free of a non-refundable tour. On the following two days, the default pairing is a bridge walk and a river float; replace either with rest or a short trail visit if the group does not want two guided outings.

Day 4: the transfer is the plan
Choose the La Fortuna to Monteverde transfer before locking in two remote hotel addresses. Shared road service, a private vehicle, and a land-and-lake connection have different luggage and pickup rules. A lake crossing does not mean there is no road segment. Pack the rain layer and documents where they remain reachable, and leave the afternoon free of a paid entry slot. This is not the day to chase an extra attraction.

Day 5: one reserve, bought once
Decide whether interpretation or private walking pace is the purpose of the visit. Then use the Monteverde ticket and circuit comparison to choose a product. A third-party guide, reserve admission, and the trip from the hotel can be separate purchases. Keep them on one budget line so a cheaper guide fee does not conceal a more expensive overall visit. Avoid buying a second entry until the selected rate clearly states what is included.
Days 6 and 7: move the final night if the flight requires it
The default table trades a third Monteverde night for a calmer departure. For a genuinely late flight, remaining in Monteverde may work if the transport provider confirms a suitable departure and road buffer. Do not copy a fixed drive time into a flight connection. For a late international arrival on day one, use an airport hotel then as well and shorten one nature base or stay in a single region. Protecting sleep and connections is more useful than preserving the printed itinerary.
Compare a second marketplace only for the same trip job
Use Klook as a second inventory check when a named product does not fit the date. Compare the same reserve, route and pickup needs. When this route is wrong
Choose Manuel Antonio and Uvita if coast time is essential. Center a longer trip on Osa if remote rainforest is the main goal. Leave Tortuguero for a route that can absorb its access logistics. Stay in one region when arrival and departure times leave fewer than four usable nature days. None of those choices is a lesser trip.
